About Us

UBR Legal was founded on June 12, 2015, under the leadership of Mr. Bharat Raichandani, a third-generation lawyer and the firm’s Managing Partner. It is a boutique law firm in India, with experienced lawyers and offices at Mumbai, Vapi and New Delhi and affiliates in several other cities.

The firm traces its professional lineage back to 1967, when Late Mr. Jamnadas Raichandani set up his legal practice from a small office in Mumbai. While arguing several criminal cases, he found his patronage to customs laws. This was grown considerably, when our Senior Partner Mr. Bhagwan Raichandani joined and this led to consolidation of the practice over 4 decades. This was followed up with further exponential growth, with launch of several offices.

He has successfully argued several cases before CESTAT Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore and High Courts at Bombay Goa and Gujarat. He also has efficaciously represented before Maharashtra Sales Tax Tribunal, various Adjudicating Authorities, District Courts, etc.

He was associated with Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, Attorneys at Mumbai for over 3 years and Ernst & Young, Mumbai for over one year.

He is a University Gold Medalist at Law. The Gold Medal was awarded to him by the then Governor of State of Maharashtra, Mr. S. M. Krishna. He was awarded for outstanding academic excellence by Shiv Sena President Mr. Uddhav Thackeray in 1996.

He has over 15 years of experience in arguing cases before the Supreme Court and various High Courts of the country including Bombay, Delhi, Nagpur, Goa, Allahabad, Lucknow, Madras, Gujarat, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Jammu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

He has successfully argued over 1000 cases before the CESTAT at Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. He has argued matters relating to VAT before the Sales Tax Appellate Tribunal at Mumbai. He has successfully argued matters before the Textile Committee Cess Appellate Tribunal at Mumbai and Income Tax Appellate Tribunal at Mumbai & Pune.

He is a profound speaker on Budget, Goods & Services Tax and Service Tax Lectures. He has authored several published articles on Negative List under Service Tax, Customs valuation, Cenvat Credit, GST etc.

He has also addressed numerous seminars organised by major Industry Associations such as CII, IMC, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Chamber of Tax Consultants, Bombay Chartered Accountant Society etc.

He was associated with Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, Attorneys at Mumbai for over 9 years and was heading the Western and Southern India Practice at Advaita Legal, Attorneys and Advocates for over one year.
